Key Highlights

Nearby Community  Pools

The Turnberry community features a private pool located on the right side of main drive into Turnberry (Turnberry Court), just past the right-hand turn you make when arriving at Turnberry Villa.

You should have received your pool gate code with your arrival messaging from your rental service. If not, text Lena Mathies.

The Phil Hummel Aquatic Center is a short walk south on Baytowne Ave from Turnberry. This community pool is heated and open year-round. It’s the perfect place to take a dip, play with the kids, or get your morning laps in.

The Village at Baytowne Wharf

Located along the shores of the Choctawhatchee Bay, The Village of Baytowne Wharf features an array of boutiques, eateries, galleries and nightlife — not to mention a jam-packed schedule of outdoor festivals and special events for the entire family. This spectacular setting, all within the gates of Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, is the perfect spot to spend a vibrant afternoon or evening on your vacation!

The Village is a short five minute walk north from Turnberry Villa’s main entrance on Baytowne Avenue.

Beach Access

Travel out to the main Sandestin entrance, cross over highway 98, pass through the guard station, and drive down until you see the put-put golf course. There is a large parking lot on the right and a walkway and boardwalk down to the beach.

Beach Chairs and Umbrella Rental

A set of chairs and umbrellas can be rented on a daily basis from the beach services hut to the right after you reach the sand.

Booking in advance is possible via phone, and is suggested during peak season. Call Beach Services at (850) 267-8171 for pricing and more information.

Jet Ski and Kayak Rental

Available both on the beach and bay side. We’d recommend the bay side, the water is calmer and you can cruise the bay looking at area homes, meander up surrounding bayous, or skirt across the bay at high speeds with ease.

Note for Jet ski rental, you will need a valid driver’s license. To rent from the Bayside, walk to the Marina and visit the rental services shack to the left as you pass the main circle. For Beachside, visit the Beach Services shack on the right after you reach the sand.

Jogging

Visit the Sandestin web site for suggested jogging routes and mileage. Our personal favorite is the ‘short loop’ via the ‘connector’, which takes you through quieter Sandestin neighborhoods and out along the bay and Links course for an incredibly picturesque run.

Biking

Bikes are available for rent at the bicycle shop in the Sandestin Marina.

Golf

To book time on a course, visit the Sandestin website for more information.

Fishing Information

You can fish from any of the lakes in Sandestin. All lakes are well stocked with various species of fish. Sandestin requests that all catches be released back into the lake. The lake just behind Turnberry Villa is a good place to start! It’s deep and well stocked.

You can fish Choctawhatchee Bay from a few specific areas – the Baytowne Boardwalk Pier, Jolee Island Nature Park, and Bayside at Sandestin.

For beach side surf fishing, the closest location is Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. The good news – this state park is a short ten minute walk on the beach east from Sandestin’s main swimming beach. You can also drive east on Highway 98 and access the main park entrance and parking just off of Highway 30A.

If you didn’t bring your fishing gear, Sandestin has fishing reels and poles for rent from the bait store at the Sandestin Marina. For tackle, visit the Bass Pro Shop in Destin Commons, west of the resort on Highway 98.

Note, Florida requires a fishing license to fish in the bay or beach, which you can purchase online.
